NAN Youth's past and present members came out!
We decided to do a raffle; we gave away two baskets full of household supplies. NAN members also recruited new members, and I look forward to working with these young people. A huge thank you goes out to all my NAN members, NAN parents, and my family and friends for your never-ending support. A good support system is a blessing. I appreciate my blessings.

Sunday, March 5, 2023, Selma Alabama - Bloody Sunday March across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. NAN Adult Chapter and NAN Youth Chapter.
On "Bloody Sunday," March 7, 1965, some 600 civil rights marchers headed east out of Selma on U.S. Route 80. They got only as far as the Edmund Pettus Bridge six blocks away, where state and local lawmen attacked them with Billy clubs and tear gas and drove them back into Selma.

What a weekend full of celebrations! Saturday, I celebrated my church brother 50th birthday (Doug Jones), Sunday I celebrated my cousin’s birthday (Tabetha Lett). Today, Monday, January 16, 2023, I celebrated Dr. King’s birthday with Newton County NAN youth. We marched with union members from IBEW local 613 my father’s union. This was an awesome weekend!

Congratulations to college NAN student Emily Emilien and her boyfriend Donovan Dewberry both graduated from Fort Valley State University today. Emily has been a part of my life since she was in the second grade, she’s my second daughter. I had the pleasure of meeting Donovan 2years ago and he has become my son. I’m so proud of these college graduates. Fort Valley gave us a little Sunday morning church during graduation but after the graduation they gave us “Stomp the yard”. It was a celebration

So this was a science fair competition where my AP Seminar class had to research a topic for 1st semester with the end goal to compete in the science fair. My research project was discovering comets and how you can differentiate between a comet and star, asteroids, or cosmic rays. I found two comets using the NASA provided telescope images from there LASCO C2 database to find the comets from date of 8/25/2022 and 10/02/2022.

April 30, 2022 - NAN Newton County Chapter 2nd Annual Scholarship Program. This was an epic event, we gave away 8 scholarships to 8 deserving students. There were 7 high school students and 1 college student. Each high school student received $1000 and the college student received $500. All high school students are a member of NAN and most have been since 9th grade working extremely hard in our community providing excellent community service projects. My college student was a member of NAN for 3yrs 10th - 12th grade, where she worked extremely hard as well. I have cried tears of joy this past weekend, I’m so proud of my NAN Youth, each one being accepted and will be attending the college of their choice. Thanks to Mr. Archie Shepherd and Mrs. Bobbie Shepherd for making this day possible. Thanks for caring enough and recognizing the work our youth do. Thanks to all guests and elected officials who came out. Thanks to Cynthia Jones, Angela Spann ,Anthony Banks and Alex Oshi for all your help. The youth march along with Civil Rights veterans. This event is in Monroe Ga. Four blacks was hung and murdered in the 40’S by a mob of white men. There’s been no justice for the families of the 4 blacks

Covington police along with Gail Mitchell ( Damsel in Defense) came out and spoke to the youth about safety and what to do in certain situations ( example: getting stop by police on a dark street)
